FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski this morning said the commission will propose rules requiring mobile carriers to alert customers who approach their monthly usage caps, triggering extra charges. The need for that kind of thing today is debatable, given all the tools that network operators offer to help subscribers monitor their own usage. But there is sure to be much more confusion in the coming months as we move toward metered pricing models for mobile data, requiring users to mind their megabytes more closely than ever.
