Today in Cleantech

Last month I wrote a weekly update on demand response providers EnerNOC and Comverge, hinting at some future announcements that would blur the lines between the traditional DR business and the broader smart grid. Well, this morning Comverge launched its big rebranding. The company now provides “Intelligent Energy Management,” through its line of smart meter-enabled, two-way communications and control software (formerly called Apollo, now called Intellisource), as well as from platforms such as EV charging and distributed power generation yet to come. The change in language makes sense, given the fact that legacy, one-way pager-based networks that incumbents like Comverge and EnerNOC use are bound to lose ground to more sophisticated technologies. Still, I’m not sure if Comverge’s new branding equals a significant change in its already developing technology strategy.
