Today in Cloud
My stance on Microsoft’s cloud computing efforts has always been that regardless what you think of its offerings, you can’t dismiss its market influence. No, it isn’t a company with the cloud in its DNA, but it has the user base to bring over a lot of customers at the expense of more purpose-built cloud services. You also can’t dismiss its experience dealing with Congress and other federal agencies. Current privacy laws make some potential cloud users leery, and thanks to Microsoft’s lobbying, it looks like Congress is finally ready to update those laws to address cloud computing. With Azure picking up steam, Microsoft might actually be the most-important vendor in cloud computing.
