Today in Cloud
On the start of the Fourth of July weekend, is there a better discussion topic than M&A? There probably are about a million, actually, so I’ll keep this brief. Dell buying Scalent is a smart move because it makes Dell a more serious competitor in the cloud data center space. In true cloud fashion, it sells cheap servers and lets the software do the work. What this means for its Egenera partnership, I don’t know. As for the idea of VMware buying Novell, it actually holds promise if done right. If muffed, Novell would be dead weight around VMware’s neck.
