AT&T today began accepting preorders for the iPhone 4, and the process so far has been a “total disaster.” There have been reports of security breaches and long lines after AT&T’s online ordering system collapsed, forcing stores across the country to use pens and paper to process sales. (Ironically, the meltdown comes the same day that Apple opened 100 million new points of presence by releasing free Apple Store software for its mobile devices.) So once again, AT&T is showing it can’t keep up with the runaway success of the iPhone.
