Today in Cloud
Last week might have been about the startups, but this week is shaping up to be about large service providers. Among the big cloud-computing announcements today are Savvis finally rolling out its cloud offerings to the public, The Planet announcing a new dedicated-server cloud infrastructure, and Terremark keeping up its momentum by announcing Pitney Bowes Business Insights as a customer. We’re seeing more demand for offerings perceived as being “enterprise-class” or “provider-ready,” and large managed hosting/colocation providers have been quick to position themselves as just the right tools for those jobs. It will be interesting to see how long this possibly false distinction between AWS-style cloud providers and this class of cloud providers lasts.
