James at jkOnTheRun was one of the first this morning to report that Verizon’s brand had disappeared from the Nexus One web site, and Bloomberg got confirmation from the carrier, which said it plans to focus on other Android-powered handsets instead. The move is a no-brainer, really: Google’s distribution model with its flagship handset is a major threat to carriers, and the Nexus One has generated little consumer interest, removing the only real motive for operators to support the phone. Don’t be surprised if Google tries to force the issue, though. After all, Big Red is the operator that vowed to support “any apps, any device.”
