Today in Cloud

We’ve been seeing Cisco’s data-center competition heating up in the past year, and it looks like those disparate efforts reached a combined critical mass today: HP announced its HP Networking brand, eliminating the ProCurve and 3Com brands; Arista unveiled its super-scalable Arista 7500 switching platform; BLADE Network and Voltaire teamed on high-density 10 GbE fabrics; Force10 laid out its 40 GbE plans; and Extreme Networks announced that it is tackling VM mobility with a virtualization management product and with its “Direct Attach” architecture. Unless all of these various efforts fail to get traction, it looks like vertically integrated unified computing, at least, won’t ever become the dominant solution.
