For years, firms like Cisco have been fighting counterfeiters that slap trusted brand names on low-rent computer and networking equipment. Things are only getting worse. According to an article in Business Week, counterfeit electronics are on the rise but with an unexpected twist. It turns out that poorly managed e-waste recycling programs are turning into a gold mine of chips, circuit boards and other components that are then used to create fakes. A vicious cycle and surely not the kind of “reuse” Dell, HP and other computer makers have in mind.
