Oracle OpenWorld kicked off last night, and already Larry Ellison has made it interesting. In fact, Larry has me more excited than ever to see what happens once Sun Microsystems officially is under his control. Oracle has IBM squarely in its sights, and Sun gives Oracle the overall systems prowess to make good on Larry’s mounting threats to (and insults toward) IBM’s dominance. The still-independent Sun is doing its part, too, by continuing to release products that conform nicely to Oracle’s high-performance future. It will be sad to see the Sun finally set, but it might be equally interesting to watch a heavily armed Larry Ellison do battle with Big Blue.
