Later this month, Amazon will start shipping an international version of its Kindle e-book reader that allows globetrotters to download books in over 100 countries (for an added fee if you’re traveling abroad). More importantly, consumers in other countries can now buy the device and start enjoying the eco-benefits of digital delivery. Will they? Signs point to yes. Not only is Kindle the company’s top seller this year, but according to Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, Kindle versions now account for 48 percent of books sold when both electronic and paper versions are available, up from 35 percent earlier this year.
