Last week, Zigbee announced a new “Green Power” standard (pdf) “for deploying switches, sensors and controllers using harvested energy in residential, commercial and industrial environments.” Today, the press has started to look at what the new standard means. Over at Earth2Tech, Mary Catherine O’Connor looks at why and how energy-harvesting is likely to gain momentum, and who the major players may be. Nick Hunn, meanwhile, suggests that the standard may be well and good, but that there are likely patent protection hurdles ahead for players who want to use it.
