Nokia wasted no time in firmly denying a report in The Guardian that it will jettison its Symbian platform in favor of Android. Even if the story was totally unfounded, though, it underscores how drastically Symbian has lost momentum as the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and the Palm Pre achieve various levels of success. Nokia must back its substantial investment in Symbian by breathing new life into its developer community and making its software more user-friendly, or risk becoming an afterthought among smartphone OSs.
