Canonical, creator of popular Linux distribution Ubuntu, is providing professional support services for users of Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud, the Eucalyptus-driven cloud system native to Ubuntu Server Edition. I get the impression that Eucalyptus will be sharing in the profits from the service offering, and that is the way it should be. Eucalyptus will rely on both licensing and support to drive revenue now that it’s in the commercial world, and a spate of partners exclusively supporting their inclusion of Eucalyptus’ open source software could seriously undercut Eucalyptus Systems Inc.’s profits.
